Making the most of Activ Absence during Covid-19

The coronavirus (COVID19) has been declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organisation. We have seen the virus spread rapidly and it’s forecast to have a significant impact to many organisations.

The CIPD & ACAS are maintaining webpages with the government advise and how employers should respond (links below).

So how should you prepare Activ Absence to help you, based on the advice given by the CIPD & ACAS we suggest Activ Absence is configured with the following Leave types:

The government has announced those who can, should work from home.

Below are leave types you can configure in Activ Absence

  • Working from Home (advised self-isolation) – This can be requested if employees have been told by a medical professional to self-isolate.
  • Working from Home (company precautions) – if the employer sends emloyees home as a precaution.
  • Working from Home (self-isolation) – This can be requested if employees choose to self-isolate but have not been advised to by a medical professional and have no symptoms.
  • Working from Home (dependent care) – This can be requested if an employee’s children are sent home because of school closure.
  • If the employees are not able to work from home, they could be granted emergency time off
  • Emergency Time Off (advised self-isolation) – This can be requested if employees have been told by a medical professional to self-isolate (entitled to Statutory Sick Pay).
  • Emergency Time Off (self-isolation) – This can be requested if employees choose to self-isolate but have not been advised to by a medical professional and have no symptoms (unpaid leave).
  • Furlough Leave – This is temporary leave of employees due to special needs of a company or employer due to COVID- 19.

We suggest you also add an unplanned absence type to record those diagnosed sicknesses:

Sickness (COVID-19)

Remember it is important for companies less that 250 employees to keep a record of the COVID-19 related sickness and medically advised self-isolation so that statutory sickness payments can be reclaimed.

If you would like these leave and absence types automatically added to your Activ Absence System click here (https://secure.activabsence.co.uk/util/switchboard.nsf/covid-19?openagent).  Once setup please review the configurations to ensure they are appropriate to your organisation and adjust the configurations where required.
